Twelve Days of Christmas

What are the 12 Days of Christmas?  Many people believe it's the 12 days leading up to Christmas Day.  In reality, the 12 days of Christmas start on Christmas Day, and continue until January 6th, which is called Epiphany.  Epiphany commemorates a few things.

First, Epiphany celebrates when the "wise men" visited Jesus and brought him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.  Epiphany also commemorates the revelation of Jesus to the Gentiles.  this is because the wise men, or magi came from another part of the world and were probably not Jewish. This shows that the magi were the first Gentiles to visit Jesus and bring him gifts.

There is a song associated with those days, called, The Twelve Days of Christmas.  Some people believe each gift in the song represents some aspect of Christmas.  Whether you subscribe to that or not, those 12 days would be a great time to think about the meaning of Jesus' first arrival on earth, and consider his second coming, during which everyone will see him.

I pray you have a safe, blessed holiday season.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
